Mining & Full-Node Infrastructure Management for a Cryptocurrency Network

About The Project

We developed and maintained the mining and full-node infrastructure for a cryptocurrency network built as a fork of Bitcoin. The goal was to maintain compatibility with the broader Bitcoin ecosystem while introducing improvements that made mining more accessible and the network more decentralized.

The project focused on ensuring reliable node availability, simplifying onboarding for node operators and miners, and designing a mining model that distributes participation more evenly rather than concentrating power among specialized hardware operators.

Key Challenges

Node Uptime & Network Availability

Full nodes form the backbone of the blockchain network and must remain highly available to validate transactions and maintain consensus.

Maintaining Decentralisation

Ensuring the network remained decentralized required distributing nodes across multiple geographies, infrastructure providers, and independent operators.

Continuous Security Updates

Node infrastructure requires frequent operating system patches and security updates to prevent vulnerabilities and maintain network stability.

Software Upgrade Coordination

Protocol updates and critical improvements require coordinated rollout across node operators without disrupting network functionality.

Performance & Resource Efficiency

Blockchain nodes process large volumes of data and transactions, requiring optimized software to minimize bandwidth usage and hardware requirements.

Infrastructure Scaling

As transaction volumes increase, node infrastructure must scale in terms of storage, computing power, and networking capacity.

Mining Centralization Risk

Traditional proof-of-work systems favor specialized ASIC hardware and regions with cheap electricity, concentrating mining power in limited locations.

Our Solution

Customized Bitcoin Fork with Network Enhancements

We built the cryptocurrency as a fork of the Bitcoin codebase, maintaining compatibility with the broader ecosystem while introducing protocol improvements that preserved the network’s unique economic and operational characteristics.

Fairer Mining Algorithm Design

The mining algorithm was modified to remove the disproportionate advantage held by specialized hardware. This allowed a wider range of participants to mine profitably using commonly available hardware, helping improve decentralization.

Full-Node Infrastructure & Deployment Automation

We developed tools and utilities that simplify node deployment, configuration, and maintenance. These systems allow operators to easily launch new nodes and perform seamless upgrades with minimal technical overhead.

Mining Ecosystem Compatibility

Support for widely used mining software was added to ensure miners could easily connect to the network using familiar tools. This significantly reduced onboarding friction for new participants.

Documentation & Operator Enablement

Comprehensive technical documentation and step-by-step deployment guides were created to help community members host their own nodes and participate in securing the network.

Core Node Availability Layer

To ensure consistent network uptime, we maintained a baseline set of highly available nodes while encouraging the community to deploy additional nodes globally.

Blockchain Explorer Integration

We integrated the network with a public blockchain explorer, enabling users to track transactions, verify blocks, and monitor network activity transparently.

The Result

Globally Distributed Node Network

The system supported the growth of hundreds of full nodes distributed across multiple regions and independent operators.

Improved Mining Accessibility

The revised mining algorithm enabled broader participation without reliance on specialized hardware.

Reliable Network Infrastructure

Automated deployment and update utilities ensured nodes remained secure, up-to-date, and highly available.

Stronger Ecosystem Participation

Clear documentation and compatibility with popular mining tools encouraged community participation and long-term network sustainability.
